DESCRIPTION

The Fairfield City Detectives challenge coin honours the history, service and dedication of detectives serving the Fairfield community and the wider south-western Sydney region. The history of policing in the Fairfield district dates back to 1818, when William Welch was appointed to police the Liverpool–Cabramatta area under Governor Lachlan Macquarie. As the district developed, local policing expanded, with Fairfield Police Station established by 1863. Over the generations, detectives have played an important role in investigating serious crime, identifying offenders and pursuing justice within an evolving and increasingly diverse community. The coin recognises the commitment of Fairfield City Detectives, whose work reflects the traditions of investigative policing and the enduring responsibility to protect the community. It also acknowledges the generations of police who have served the district, building upon the experience, professionalism and dedication of those who came before them. Featuring the NSW Police Force insignia on one side and the Fairfield City Detectives emblem on the other, the coin serves as a lasting symbol of camaraderie, pride and service — honouring the history of local policing and the ongoing commitment of those entrusted with the pursuit of justice.
