Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office 2025 (MDPD became MDSO)

Spinning coin. The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) officially transitioned into the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO), effective January 7, 2025, following a 2024 election and a 2018 Florida constitutional amendment. Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz leads the new agency, which replaces the MDPD after decades. While uniforms, badges, and the name change, the core mission to protect the community remains the same.
