This challenge coin was Awarded to some unknown for excellence by the wing Director. About this challenge coin, the United States Air Force does not have an official unit named the mobility systems wing, but similar designation fall under air ability command, which manages global strategic airlift, refueling, and the global air mobility support system. This makes it hard to pin down where and what wing and what wing director that is connected with this challenge coin? If you happen to know, shoot me an email and I’ll correct the information on this page. In the meantime I vote it’s the 60th air mobility wing. If it was the executive wing Director, it would’ve been Erick J. Fierro. If it was a group Director  it would have been the Aeronautical system center. This is a major clue to this challenge coin. The aeronautical system center was a major US Air Force organization based at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio that managed military aircraft acquisition development and sustainment from 1961 until 2012.  the aeronautical system center was redesignated ASC in 1992 as part of an Air Force material command re-organization. This would make the challenge coin being used between 1992 and 2012. Then there’s a second possible, clue, on the back of the challenge coin we see the United States Air Force Senior executive service this comprises, top-tier civilian leaders who managed key physicians just below presidential appointee, serving as a critical bridge between military leadership, political, appointee, and the federal workforce. This clue doesn’t really seem to lead anywhere.   Possibilities: Air mobility command: the main four star major command directing global reach, airlift, and refueling. 60th air mobility wing: the largest air mobility wing by personnel, based at Travis Air Force Base, California.  621st contingency response wing: rapidly surveys and establishes forward – deployed airfields and mobility infrastructure. 515th air mobility operations wing: manages en-route logistics, and support networks across the Pacific region.
